As the hot summer days give way to the cooler autumn months, it might not just be your wardrobe that’s in need of a seasonal overhaul - you’ll want to adapt your skincare and beauty regime too. Here are some of our top tips to help you maintain your glow, even after you’ve said goodbye to summer.

Stay Hydrated

Hot showers followed by commutes in the cold autumnal air can play havoc with our skin’s ability to regulate its own oil production - and this makes it more common for those of us with eczema to suffer more during autumn. Make sure you’re drinking enough water, and hydrate your skin with essential oils, serums, and creams. Try not to overuse your hairdryer or central heating, as these can make your skin ever dryer during the autumn months. You could also opt for a more moisturising cleanser in autumn: sweat and activity during the summer can call for a clarifying cleanser, but if your summertime cleanser is feeling a bit harsh in the colder months, opt for something more nourishing to replenish your skin’s moisture levels.

Don't forget about SPF

Even though UV radiation is higher during summer months, it's still present throughout the year, so it’s not a good idea to take a season off when it comes to protecting your skin. To keep your skin healthy and radiant all year round and decrease the impact of UV rays, continue applying your SPF factor every day - it is recommended to use a minimum of SPF 30.

It’s no secret that the dry autumn air can take a toll on your skin. The alternating between dry hot and cold air can strip your skin of its natural oils, degrading its moisture barrier and leading to cracking, flaking and peeling skin. It’s worth investing in a good humidifier, which keeps indoor air hydrated and helps to battle dry skin. You can even put a few drops of essential oils in it to relax and de-stress.

Exfoliation is an essential part of your skincare routine whatever the season - don’t be tempted to give it a miss even if your skin is less on show once the temperature changes! Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and allows the moisture and nutrients from skincare products to be more easily absorbed, making sure you get the full benefit of your autumn beauty routine.
