If your gift-giving inspiration has been used up on birthdays and Christmas, we’re here to help get you back on track. We’re sharing 5 of our favourite ideas for giving your mum a much-needed dose of love this Mother’s Day.
Afternoon Tea For Two
Who doesn’t love a decadent afternoon cream tea? Finger sandwiches, fluffy scones and endless cups of tea - heaven! While a trip to your favourite eatery for high tea may be off the cards this year, you can still treat your mum to a delicious afternoon this Mother’s Day.
If you live nearby, we’d highly recommend you do the baking yourself; there’s something very therapeutic about rubbing butter into flour and chopping crusts off the bread. But if you’re a bit further afield, or you’ve had your fill of making other people’s sandwiches, help is at hand!
Not only are many cafes currently offering afternoon tea with delivery in preparation for Mother’s Day, but there are a growing number of home bakers providing the same. Get online and take a look at the options available near your mum’s postcode; you might be surprised at just how spoiled for choice you are!
And of course, in different times, if you were able, you’d accompany her to afternoon tea. So it’s only fair that you treat yourself to something tasty too. Go on; you’ve earned it.
A Welcome Distraction
Whether your mum is shielding or not, there’s only so much television and 1000 piece puzzles one person can take. This Mother’s Day, inject a touch of fun into her day by sending her some entertainment.
The options here are limited only by your imagination, but here are a few ideas to get you going…
Board Games
Who doesn’t love a good board game? Physical or online, solo or in a group, games bring out our inner child and are a great way to spend an afternoon. Websites like boardgamearena.com have seen a huge increase in members over the past 12 months and allow you to join friends or family for a game of Yahtzee, Backgammon, or so much more. It’s free to play, or mum can enjoy premium access for as little as £2 a month, so pick a game and challenge her to an afternoon of healthy competition.
Escape Room
2020 saw the rise of online escape rooms, and they’re as popular now as ever. Work as a team or against each other to escape the virtual room in which you find yourself trapped. Themes range from murder mysteries to art heists and more. You can even get the whole family involved, as many escape rooms are designed with larger groups and mixed ages in mind.
Learn A Skill
It’s never too late to learn something new, and with the world at our fingertips, the options are endless. Websites such as udemy.com, skillshare.com and domestika.org offer short, online lessons in everything from flower arranging and cake decorating to web development and graphic design.
Special Delivery
With so many businesses moving online, it’s never been easier to shop for Mother’s Day. Why not support one of the smaller UK businesses by ordering a special delivery straight to her door? Not only will it be unexpected, but by shopping small you can almost guarantee to find something she wouldn’t have purchased for herself.
We love baked deliveries, like the gorgeous Breakfast In Bed Biscuits by Honeywell Biscuit Co. and the Indulgent Box by Cakehead. Or, support your local florist by sending your mum a beautiful flower bouquet or arrangement! A fresh flower delivery is always a welcome boost to any interior, especially when time outside has to be limited.
If your mum is a fan of beauty products, then you already know where to go! You can shop our Mother’s Day Edit here or get tailored inspiration from our Gift Guide.
The Best Kind Of IOU
Most years, the idea of giving your mum an IOU for Mother’s Day would be an exceedingly bad idea - but this isn’t most years! If you’re seriously stuck on ways to make her feel special this Mother’s Day, why not promise her something special to look forward to when there are fewer restrictions in place?
Of course, any good IOU should be in writing, so create a DIY voucher entitling her to whatever you have in mind, whether it’s tapas together at her favourite restaurant, a long lazy brunch, or a visit to the local bookstore. Not only does this buy you a little time if you’ve not found the perfect gift, but it will show her you’ve really thought about what she might enjoy. You can even print out the one above and send - just right click from a desktop to save to your photos!
Pick Up The Phone
If your mum is abroad or you’ve left it too late to send something by post, there’s one last way to show her you care - tell her. Put on the kettle, give her a call, and spend some quality time listening to what’s going on in her life. Ask about her friends, find out what the neighbours have been up to - make time for the conversations that you’re usually too busy to enjoy.
Mum’s rarely get the recognition they deserve. Knowing you see and appreciate her really is the best gift you could give. Sometimes, it’s the little things that mean the most.
Sending each and every mum our happiest Mother’s Day wishes, from the allbeauty team.
