Zinc Oxide, and Titanium Dioxide

Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are naturally occurring minerals that sit on our skin and protect us from the sun’s harmful UV rays. They are also the main active ingredients of mineral (or physical) sunscreens and work by creating a barrier which reflects the sun’s powerful rays. This is usually preferred over their chemical counterparts, which absorb the sun’s UV rays and convert them to heat. Also, chemical sunscreens contain synthetic chemicals as their active ingredients.

Zinc Oxide and titanium dioxide are white minerals and leave a chalky white finish on the skin – but there are clear or tinted options available.
