We take a look at the party season hair trends for 2017 with tips on how to create and style!
Party season hair trends don't change much year on year. However, this year sees a return to classic looks and styles, with a looser / softer feel. We've picked 5 of our favourite looks and come up with products and techniques to help you recreate them.
Sleek and Straight
For day-long, poker straight hair, we love a Steam Pod. Seriously, if your straighteners are ok but hair tends to wave by the end of the day, invest!! But products are also key. Make sure you prime the hair first with a straightening serum, such as Kerastase Discipline Keratin Thermique Milk that leaves hair smooth, with a frizz-free finish. For a less polished look, spritz a little dry shampoo through your hair towards the end of the day, to get volume and texture. Finish ends with a smoothing serum and add a gloss shine spray if you're going for ultra-glam!
The Braided Up-do
The key to a great braid is grip, so working with super-clean hair isn't always ideal. So either spritz through a little dry shampoo, or use a braiding lotion such as Redken Braid Aid. Use a little serum or MOROCCANOIL to tame fly-aways, or spray a little hairspray onto a toothbrush and gently brush them into place. If you have fine hair, then use a volumising shampoo and a thickening product to style, such as label.m Thickening Cream. And of course, don't forget to gently pull apart the braid, to get that fuller look.
The Bouffant
A great look for long or short hair, this nod to the 60s beehive works really well for evening. Be sure to use a thickening product such as TIGI Bed Head Motor Mouth (which also adds a hint of shine!) Then section off the top of the hair and gently backcomb with a teasing brush. Spray the underside of the hair with a volumising hairspray (we love Matrix High Amplify Spray) then again over the top to set. The Soft Curl
Waves are never out of fashion, but this season the full wave is making a comeback. For an edgier, cooler look, salt-spray is ideal. Spritz through damp hair then dry with your hands. For a more glamorous 'done' look, you'll want to use curling irons or rollers. Use a curl-setting product before you style, such as TIGI Catwalk Strong Hold Mousse and be sure to let the hair cool completely before touching. A super-easy way to get this look from office to party, is to roll the hair damp into a chignon (like this or even easier like this), then shake it loose for the evening.
The Edgy Bob
Similar to the soft wave, putting curls into a bob gives you instant wow! This Emma-Stone inspired look is fab - a looser look can be achieved with damp plaited hair, slept in overnight. Or, for faster curl-while-you-style, Click N Curl is a great solution. Simply use the brush to blow dry, then roll into a curl and detach. Leave to cool, uncurl, then set with a spray.
