5 ways to autumn-proof your skin in preparation for the colder weather

As the days grow shorter and temperatures start to drop, now is the ideal time to update your skincare routine. A chance to repair any sun damage, lock in moisture and rejuvenate your complexion before the cold, dry winter kicks in, here's where to to update your skincare routine if you haven't already...

1 Exfoliate

Cold weather = flakey skin. So now’s the perfect time to get buffing to help keep skin smooth, supple and bright. Gentle enough for even acne-prone skin, we love the Purifying Facial Scrub from Manuka Doctor . Combining Purified Bee Venom (PBV™), Manuka Honey and powerful botanical extracts, this hard-working-yet-gentle scrub visibly refines, polishes, brightens and resurfaces. With natural bamboo scrub particles to exfoliate.

2 Cleanse

As the weather turns colder it can stress skin out, causing dry patches, irritation and redness. So if you favour a foam cleanser try switching things up and opting for a milk/cream-based cleanser or cleansing oil instead. The reason? The active ingredient in foaming cleansers can add to irritation. We recommend Decleor Aroma Cleanse Micellar Oil , which contains sweet almond oil and is rich in essential fatty acids, to help strengthen and soothe the skin.

3 Hydrate

At this time of year, it’s essential that your skincare routine features plumping ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to defend your complexion against cold spells, pollution and the drying effect of air conditioning.Providing lasting moisture for up to 72 hours, Clinique Moisture Surge 72 Hour Replenishing Hydrator is a refreshing gel-cream texture with Aloe vera, humectants and hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and prevent dehydration. OH and it's basically the world's fav moisturiser ever!

4 Don't forget lips!

Dry, flaky lips are a common side effect of the colder weather for most, and it's important to protect them from harsh winds and chilly frosts. We love new Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm from Nuxe , whose rich formula uses the restorative power of beeswax, honey and conditioning oils to restore comfort and softness to your lips.

5... or your hands!

Our hands and feet are possibly *the* most overlooked part of of our bodies when it comes to skincare, so show them some love this season. Our go-to treat? Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream of course! A mix of lanolin, oils and vitamin E, this cream works by soothing and moisturising skin. What may surprise you though, is the inclusion of salicylic acid, which removes dead skin and encourages new growth. Wave bye bye to flaky, dry hands!
