Protect your skin and the planet this summer! With Caudalie
It’s no secret that the SPF and hydrosoluble filters found in sun protection can be harmful to our oceans, marine life and coral reefs. Caudalie is one of the key brands leading the fight against using harmful ingredients in their suncare range to better protect our planet . We caught up with Caudalie’s National Beauty Expert Abi to learn more about the company’s sustainability commitments and how to achieve a glowing tan all summer long.
allbeauty: Can you tell us a bit more about why suncare products can be so harmful to the environment? What steps are Caudalie taking for suncare products to be ocean safe and what are Caudalie’s company commitments?
Abi: Some chemical filters found in sunscreens today can be very harmful to the body and toxic to the environment. Oxybenzone and Octinoxate are two chemical filters Caudalie has banned from their formulas to ensure its sunscreen protects our skin and nature. These chemical filters add risk to your health and are known as endocrine disruptors which cause negative effects within the tissues and are extremely harmful to the ecosystem and marine life. Such chemicals have caused coral reefs to be degraded, bleached, and even killed. Caudalie’s ocean safe formula is highly biodegradable and eco-friendly.
In addition to safe formulas and clean ingredients, Caudalie is committed to responsible beauty that respects the planet. We are a proud ‘1% for the planet’ member - this means that Caudalie will donate 1% of worldwide turnover each year to help the fight against deforestation. To date, Caudalie has planted over 7 million trees and we are on track for 8 million trees by 2021. Also, we have recently seen some positive changes regarding our packaging. Some products have gone from a plastic tube to a glass jar and plastic spatulas have been removed from creams, reducing 1.3 tonnes of plastic.
allbeauty: We know you have a new and exciting summer addition for your 2020 suncare range, please tell us more about that!
Abi: Our sun care family consists of the Milky Sun Spray
allbeauty: Lastly, can you share any tips and tricks to keep a healthy glow all summer long and how to achieve a perfect long-lasting tan?
Abi: A full body exfoliation is a great way to keep skin glowing and radiant. Exfoliation buffs off unwanted dead skin cells and boots circulation, leaving skin silky smooth and revitalised. My favourite is the Crushed Cabernet Scrub infused with grape seeds, brown sugar, and essential oils. Exfoliate before tanning for a long lasting perfect tan. Another great way to achieve a glow on your skin is to incorporate oils into your routine. When tanning the Beautifying Suncare Oil provides the skin with SPF30 protection and leaves the skin radiant with a satin-like finish. For daily use, the Divine Oil enriched with argan, and grape seed oil is perfect for hair and body and leaves skin feeling nourished with a healthy glow. Our oils have a unique dry oil formula and absorb fast into the skin. For the face, our Vinoperfect Dark Spot Moisturizer, melts into the skin offering instant hydration and a radiant healthy glow, for best results use alongside the Vinoperfect Serum.
Lastly the use of our Tan Prolonging After-Sun Lotion is the perfect way to repair, hydrate and prolong your tan for long-lasting luminosity.
