Easy Halloween Makeup & Costume Ideas
25 October 2022
The spookiest time of the year is just around the corner. If you haven’t decided who you’ll be this year yet, it’s time to get down to it. The internet is full of exquisite and elaborate Halloween makeup ideas, but what if you don’t have a pro makeup artist on speed dial? Here are some easy Halloween makeup ideas perfect for the ‘gram.
1. The Girl with the Pearl Earring
Vermeer’s Girl with the Pearl Earring is an unusual and elegant look to recreate this Halloween. Create the headpiece by using strips of indigo and mustard cloth over a high bun. A brown wrap and a white blouse take care of the rest – pair with boots and a long skirt to add authenticity. Don’t forget your pearl earrings, and you’re good to go.
The actual makeup itself is easy to do. It’s all about the brows and lips – comb out your eyebrows using a brush like benefit Dual Ended Angled Eyebrow Brush and set with the benefit 24-HR Brow Setter. If you have dark brows, use a light concealer followed by a setting powder to lighten and thin them out. Use the benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer followed by foundation to give your skin a translucent glow. A white eyeliner on your waterline and a kissable, reddish tint on the lips like the benefit Floratint Desert Rose-Tinted Lip & Cheek Tint completes the look.
2. Sabrina The Teenage Witch
Take inspo’ from Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for a fun and easy Halloween costume.
Use benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer to create an unearthly radiance, then add a bit of colour using benefit Hello Happy Flawless Brightening Foundation. A light blusher and the iconic Dior Addict Lip Glow Reviving Lip Balm (which was actually used on the show!) and you’re good to go. To recreate Sabrina’s bolder makeup look from the show, use benefit Roller Liner to bring some drama to the eyes. Pair with a plum coloured lipstick like Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in Blackberry.
When it comes to your outfit, there are so many great fashion moments in the show to choose from. For a classic Sabrina look, team a lace collared dress with patent loafers and a satchel – and don’t forget the black satin headband.
3. Black Swan
Ok this one isn’t very subtle but is stunningly beautiful. Give your skin the right base with benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer and follow with foundation – Clarins Everlasting Foundation is long-wearing and gives outstanding coverage. Trace the lines of feathers on your eyes using benefit BADgal BANG Pencil. Use your fingers and eyeliner to fill in the gaps. Recreate Natalie Portman’s dark lip with the M.A.C Amplified Lipstick 108 Dubonnet and you’re good to go.
Pair with a black tutu and a gothic crown to complete the look.
4. Bambi
Who doesn’t love a cute fawn? Start with your foundation base as usual and set it with powder – Clinique’s Superpowder Double Face Powder is an excellent finishing powder with a matte finish. Contour around your forehead and cheekbones using a darkish bronzer like the benefit Hoola Toasted Deep Matte Powder Bronzer and add a lighter dusting along your jawline. Use a white highlighter like White Diamond in the Makeup Addiction Holy Glow Vol 1 Highlighter Palette to create an upside down triangle going from the inner corners of your eyes down the side of your nose. Blend a soft line of brown using the benefit Face Miss Glow It All Palette on the outside of the triangle add definition. Line your waterline with a white eyeliner for a big doe-eyed look. Use a black pencil to draw in a nose and add little white dots with your white highlighter over the bronzer to finish off.
Team your Bambi makeup look with a cute pair of ears or antlers. You can either dress down with a cosy deer onesie or glam up with a brown leotard and tutu.
