10 Ways To Make Your Perfume Last Longer

Everyone has their favourite perfumes your goto signature scents that give you an instant boost and make you
feel like you. So how do you make the most of every spritz?

Allbeauty brings you 10 hacks to give your perfume even more staying power, so you’ll smell fresh as a Marc Jacobs
Daisy, or shine bright like an Armani Diamond all day long.

1. Apply perfume to clean and dry skin

It’s always a good idea to apply your perfume soon after you’ve had a shower and dried yourself. The steam from
the shower opens up the pores in your skin, allowing the fragrance to interact with your skin the way it is meant
to. And what better way to start your day than with a fresh spritz of scent?

2. Moisturise first

Moisturising should always be part of your daily skincare routine, but making sure that your skin is well hydrated
helps your skin to absorb the perfume better. To make the most of your fragrance, opt for an unscented body
lotion, or better yet, a moisturiser with the same fragrance as your perfume.

3. Know your perfume points

Your pulse points are usually warmer than other parts of your body. Spritzing your perfume on these areas
increases its projection and will help diffuse the scent for longer. Your pulse points include:

Behind the ears

Inside the elbows

Back of the knees

You can also spray some perfume on your cleavage and ankles. Some people also find that perfumes diffuse better
if they apply it on the tops of their ears it may sound weird but it does work.

4. Don’t forget your hair

Your hair can really carry perfume well. Spray a little on freshly washed and dried hair or on your hairbrush to
distribute the scent more evenly.

You can also use a perfume especially for hair. Find out more about
hair mists and perfumes here.

5. Don’t rub your wrists

Most people tend to rub their wrists after applying perfume. Doing this actually causes the perfume to evaporate
faster, which means you’ll have to reapply the scent sooner. Instead, just spritz it on your wrist and let it air dry

6. Mist from a distance

Misting your perfume too close to your skin can result in large droplets concentrated in one area, and an uneven
scent. Instead, hold your perfume bottle a few inches away from your skin about 6 to 7 inches away is ideal.

If you are using a miniature bottle without a spray, then you can use the bottle stopper to apply the perfume to
your pulse points or the bottle neck. Avoid using your fingertips as far as possible. You can also buy an
to make your fragrance even easier to spray on the go.

7. Less is more

This is definitely true when it comes to perfume. While some perfumes can be really light, others can have strong
bouquets and they can be overpowering if you spray too much on at a time. Check whether your chosen fragrance
is an Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, or Parfum as they all have different concentrations learn
what the
differences are here
. Spray heavier perfumes with a light hand as a general rule, give your fragrance just one or
two sprays and reapply as necessary as the scent fades.

Be careful while reapplying though, as your nose can get used to the scent and you may think your perfume has
worn off when it hasn’t. If in doubt, ask your bestie!

As well as making your perfume last longer when you wear it, you can also lengthen its shelf life, giving you even
better value and more time to enjoy your favourite scent. Here’s how:

8. Don’t shake your fragrance bottle

Shaking the perfume can also air to infuse the fragrance and shorten its lifespan. Unlike a martini, perfumes don’t
like to be shaken or stirred so keep the bottle nice and still to make it last longer.

9. Keep your perfume in its original bottle

Perfume bottles come in such beautiful designs that you probably won’t want to store them in anything else anyway
but decanting your fragrances into separate containers can allow air to saturate them, which can alter their
chemical makeup and affect their scent. Instead, keep your fragrance in the bottle it came in.

10. Store your perfume in a cool, dark place

Perfume can break down in fluctuating temperatures or humidity. Stow your perfume in a cool drawer, rather than
in the bathroom, and keep it away from direct sunlight.
