This is quite possib...

This is quite possibly the pinnacle of the Philips shaver range. Philips have MERCIFULLY realised that this whole "wireless charging" thing (used in the previous 9000 shaver) is nothing but a silly gimmick (there's no such thing as wireless charging - something will still always need a wire), and have ditched it with this, their latest shaver. Quite what genius in the Philips design team thought that saying "Hey! With our last shaver you could charge to full in just 1 hour - with our wireless charging shaver, it'll take a lot longer than that!" was a great move is anyone's guess. But all is forgiven with this one. The thing is meaty as hell to hold, although that brings me to the ONE criticism of this shaver, and that's that they have raised the position of the power button too close to where my thumb rests whilst gripping the shaver. So far the obvious (turning it back off again mid-shave) has not happened, and I think Philips may have deliberately made the button less sensitive to avoid this happening. Nevertheless I wish they had lowered it a bit on the body. At first I had thought the weird pentagon surrounds on the shaver heads were just for show. But on looking further I saw that the plastic seems to completely shield the metal shaver heads. This might well help preserve the metal shaver heads from possible corrosion from shaving gel (which I always use with these wet and dry shavers as my skin is so horrific). So it's a great design thought. The pressure light, for me, IS a gimmick, and I've switched it off. I feel that pretty much everyone who buys a shaver like this, and spends this much money, is already going to know how these things work and how to shave with them. It's simply unnecessary. The display is like something from a sci-fi film - I LOVE it!! When you finish it shows you how much power is left as a percentage, and when it's being cleaned it has a little splashing animation thing going on. It also has a few other uses related to stuff like setting up your shaver guidance. Speaking of guidance, the shaver INSTRUCTS you, with pictures, NOT to shave in an up and down motion, and ONLY in circular motions. Luckily, although, of course, for the bulk of the time yes the circular motion is the fastest action to destroy your horrible, greasy stubble, I have found you can still move up and down to ensure that the tricky last couple of hairs are caught without any negative impact on your skin. It should go without saying that the shave itself is smooth and pain free. The supplied cleaning station is incredible! Cleaning your shaver just 1 minute - it does make you wonder why the previous cleaning station needed to be left for at least an hour! The station does not even need an additional wire! It is in fact powered by the shaver itself - which you turn upside down and impale through the centre of the shaver heads, then press the shaver power button and watch the magic happen. The final master touch that Philips have done is bring back the sideburns shaver BUILT INTO THE BODY!! I'm sorry I had to 'shout' that but I can't do italics on this site. It's a very, very welcome return to this, as I've seen plenty of people complain that it was removed from the past couple of 9000 series shavers. That, along with the inclusion of the cleaning pod, and a beautiful, high quality travel case for the shaver, make this the complete package. Yes it is a considered purchase, but the value for money is unquestionable. Philips do not make the best of everything, but when it comes to shavers, I believe they are truly unrivalled.
