Fragrances are the ultimate gift, and with Father’s Day coming up, now is a great time to start looking at your options. But, it’s difficult enough choosing a fragrance for yourself, let alone someone else!

With that in mind, we’ve put together this list of the Top 3 Fragrances for every type of dad. So, whether the dad you’re buying for is a sporty or sensitive type, choosing a great scent for them will be a breeze. Here, we’ll list our top suggestions for each dad, and give you a brief explanation of the main notes (as identified by other customers) to help with your decision making.

Sporty Dad

You could be forgiven for thinking that the football-loving, racecar-watching dads out there wouldn’t be well catered for when it comes to fragrance. Boy oh boy, you’d be wrong! So popular are fragrances aimed at the sporty (or sport appreciating) man, that there’s a whole genre dedicated to that audience. Sports fragrances tend to be very clean, with citrus or oceanic notes. Here are our top three recommendations:

Prada Luna Rossa SportA fresh, bright fragrance, Luna Rossa Sport is as sophisticated as the bottle it comes in. With only five notes, it’s simple yet perfectly balanced: lavender, vanilla, tonka bean, juniper berries and ginger - this is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Issey Miyake L'Eau D’Issey Pour HommeA warm, clean scent, Issey Miyake is renowned for creating modern fashions and this scent stays true to the brand. Dominant notes in this fragrance are yuzu (a Japanese citrus), lemon, blue lotus, Tahitian vetiver, bergamot and nutmeg.

Ralph Lauren Polo SportAn oldie but a goodie, Ralph Lauren Polo Sport has been incredibly popular since its release in 1994. The main notes that shine through in this fragrance are mint, aldehydes (fresh, clean scent), lavender, seagrass and bergamot.

Suited Dad

For men who work in an office setting, finding the right fragrance can be a balancing act. Powerful, without being overbearing. Confident, without being arrogant. Warm, without being sensual. See what we mean?! Thankfully, there’s no shortage of fantastic fragrances aimed at the professional man. Here are just a few of our favourites:

Floris No.89A name synonymous with James Bond thanks to writer Ian Fleming’s adoration of all things Floris, this quintessentially English fragrance has notes of lavender, rose, orange, bergamot, neroli and geranium.

Trussardi RiflessoAn easy-to-wear Italian fragrance, Riflesso’s main notes are tonka bean, green apple, leather, violet leaves and lavender. Ideal for a man who doesn’t like woody fragrances, this is free of the woody base notes so often used in men’s fragrances.

Guerlain Homme A fresh and warm fragrance, Guerlain Homme consists of spicy mint, lime and rum notes layered over a floral, cedar and vetiver base. Warm and soft from day to night.

Sensitive Dad

Not all men want to smell stereotypically masculine and musky. In fact, many of them would much prefer lighter, floral notes offset against a fragrant wood such as cedar or oak. Finding a well-balanced fragrance for the sensitive man can be like finding a needle in a haystack - but we’ve narrowed down our favourites.

Evody Parfums Rêve D'AnthalaInspired by Madagascan beaches, Rêve D'Anthala is a sweet, sensual unisex fragrance. Orchid, caramel, vanilla and amberwood provide the warmth, while petitgrain and yellow mandarin keep it fresh. You’ll be wanting to steal this one for yourself!

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01An incredibly popular unisex fragrance, Molecule 01 is a tad difficult to describe! It’s categorised as a Woody Floral Musk, but only contains one note: Iso E Super. This synthetic compound is clean, light and airy and smells slightly different depending on the wearer.

Miller Harris Lumière DoréeA unisex fragrance, Lumière Dorée is floral without being sweet. Neroli, bitter orange and petitgrain hit you first, with amber, vetiver, white musk and cashmere wood rounding off the base.

Intrepid Dad

When he’s not planning to climb up the nearest mountain, he’s researching destinations abroad. The Intrepid Dad appreciates global cuisines, cultures and the varied sights, sounds and smells that he experiences along the way. With interesting notes not found in run-of-the-mill fragrances, the following options are perfectly suited.

Montblanc ExplorerNot only does Montblanc Explorer smell fantastic, but the bottle is absolutely gorgeous too. Bergamot and pink pepper take the top notes, while leather, ambroxan and akigalawood anchor the fragrance.

Paco Rabanne Invictus AquaThe perfect fragrance for Spring/Summer, Invictus Aqua is a reimagined version of the popular 2016 edition of the same name. Drawing inspiration from both land and sea, Invictus Aqua has dominant violet, grapefruit, violet leaf and sea notes, with a thoroughly woody base.

Davidoff AdventureExotic and spicy, Davidoff Adventure is inspired by the wilderness. With notes of pimento, black pepper, vetiver, cedar and sesame, it wouldn’t be out of place on a lumberjack (in a good way).

Classic Dad

For older gents or men who don’t often experiment with their fragrance, finding a suitable gift can be a tad tricky. Instead of opting for anything too modern, stick with brands and fragrances that have stood the test of time. You won’t go wrong with any of the three following options.

Creed Aventus An “old school” fragrance, Creed Aventus ranks highly in the most praised men’s perfumes on the market. Though classic, it’s far from boring, with prominent notes including pineapple, birch, musk, blackcurrant and oakmoss.

Versace The DreamerAnother highly popular fragrance among those with refined tastes, The Dreamer by Versace balances floral and herbal notes. Iris, juniper, flax, lily and tarragon rest on a base of amber and tobacco blossom.

Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de l’HommeYou can’t go wrong with Yves Saint Laurent, and La Nuit de l’Homme is no exception. A warm and spicy, powdery fragrance, cardamom is the first scent you’ll notice, followed by lavender, cedar, bergamot, caraway and vetiver.

Will you be treating someone special to a new fragrance this Father’s Day? Does it feature on our list? If not, let us know what you’re purchasing in the comments!
